I have been travelling for a couple of months in India now and a common question is being asked of me by new people who I meet.

Where can I stay so that I can easily meet other travellers?

As I mentioned in my previous post how to meet people when travelling India does not have a big hostel culture like South America or Europe. Many independent budget travellers are forced to stay in guest houses or cheap hotels which limits the fun and possibilities of meeting new people quite substantially.

For this reason I have compiled a list of some of the great hostels which I have stayed in India so that you can find them and make sure you stay there. All of these hostels have dorms, great common areas and a relaxed atmosphere. They are all good places to meet and hook up with like-minded travellers.

Zostel Hostel Jaipur and Jodhpur – A new chain of hostels (India’s first) which currently has two hostels; one in Jaipur and one in Jodhpur, both in the state of Rajasthan. They have dorms, a kitchen, good common areas, friendly staff, wi-fi, lockers a great atmosphere and lots of other travellers.

Moustache Hostel New Delhi – This is the best place to start your trip in India. It is located in a middle class area of Delhi where you can escape the daunting chaos which engulfs most of the city. It’s a great place to relax and speak to other travellers to find out some tips and ideas for continuing onwards. Also has a kitchen, wi-fi and many dorms. Probably the best out of the bunch.

Jungle Hostel in Goa – This is another great hostel. Goa is a destination for beaches, fun and partying and this chilled out hostel will help you to connect with many other travellers doing just those things. It has several dorms, a kitchen, wi-fi and all the usual good stuff that you want from a hostel.

The above two can be booked on http://www.hostelworld.com/

Goan Corner, Hampi – This isn’t really a hostel, more of a bunch of budget villa’s surrounded by rice paddies. The reason it is on this list is because it has a great restaurant and outdoor area where you can mingle with other travellers. Many places in India have areas like this but this one is quite big and filled with the kind of people who you want to meet. I could have stayed here for weeks. Hampi itself was one of my favourite destinations in India and I met many cool people here.

I can’t find a website for this place but it is well-known in Hampi, you can enquire about it when you get in to town.
